Jim began modeling in HO scale in November 1958 and has been in HO ever since. He has detailed and painted more than a thousand diesels, another several hundred freight cars, and at least a hundred brass steam locos -- including many fine Pennsy steeds! His 173rd model railroad magazine article was published in the February 1999 Model Railroader. He has been published in Model Railroader, Model Railroading, Railroad Model Craftsman, Mainline Modeler, Prototype Modeler and the NMRA Bulletin (a few times). For a few years in the mid 1980s, he was the editor of Prototype Modeler magazine.
For years he was a New York Central and Pennsylvania modeler. Yes, he loved both of these (arch rival) railroads and even the Penn Central as well. He is a sucker for trains and railroads of all kinds! However, about 8 years ago he sold off almost all of his NYC, PRR, PC, and CR models and switched to southeast modeling of the ACL, SAL, SOU, and others.
Now that he has built about all that he needs for his southeastern railroad, he is again dabbling in his old loves, NYC, PRR, and NKP.
