Ron Hoess' Chestnut Hill Branch

Contact: Ron Hoess.

My is a point to point layout that I started 20 years ago. The first section depicts the Chestnut Hill Branch starting at Chestnut Hill and going to North Philadelphia. It is double tracked with catenary. Coming off the branch is the Fort Washington Branch which simply connects with the Trenton cutoff (most of the cutoff is hidden track). About midway down the branch there is a short spur depicting the Midvale Branch which of course runs to Midvale Steel. Also there is a small yard to depict Midvale Yard.

About ten years ago I added an extension that connects to the Trenton cutoff and is basically Thorndale Yard. This serves as a staging area at one end of the layout. Last year I extended the layout beyond North Philadelphia to Margie Yard, so I now have a staging area at the either end of the layout. In addition, I have modeled the Stifftown Branch which was a small branch at North Philadelphia that served a number of industries as well as an interchange with the Reading.

Inbound MP54s at Allen Lane. Beyond that one can see a Baldwin switcher spotting a boxcar at American Pulley.

On the Stifftown Branch in front of Viking Sprinkler Co. and Sinclair & Valentine makers of printers inks. These are in fact companies that were on the Stifftown Branch. In the background one can see MP54s headed towards Margie.

A set of Baldwin Sharks entering Thorn interlocking. The tower is scratch built complete with interior. The MP54s are old Walthers cars that are being retired as soon as I assemble my F&C MP54s and figure out how to power them.
