Newcomerstown, Ohio

This Y3 Mallet has just come out of Newcomerstown tunnel and is working hard pulling fifty-six coal cars. These coal cars are full and Mallets never did run fast, but they had plenty of power, especially on mountain grades and curves. This Mallet belongs to the Santa Fe and is currently leased by the Pennsylvania Railroad.

The photo to the left shows a PRR Consolidation running westbound, while a F3 ABBA freight, #E250TF, is running through the tunnel. The photo above is from a different angle as the westbound passenger train is running towards Cincinnati and points further to the west. The coal train is freight #E104 with a final destination of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
