Jon Anderson's Peoria Branch

Contact: Jon Anderson.

I am modeling part of the Peoria Branch of the Pennsylvania Railroad, which was part of the Southwestern Division. I plan to model with 1965 as my stopping point. GP-35s, are the newest power around. From the little information that I have been able to find, there wasn't a whole lot of traffic on this part of the line during my time frame. So modelers licence will be used to increase it just a bit.

The layout is going to be point to point and will be housed in a 19' X 11' building. The building also has a 7'9"X 5'10" annex that is available. It will run along two walls and a central peninsula. It will make about 1.5 laps around the building. At this time the building is being renovated.

The layout will include: Staging which will represent East Peoria, then to Washington St. (where the P+PU track joined the NKP. Remember PRR trackage rights), Farmdale Jct. (PRR split off onto their own tracks from the NKP), the City of Morton, Ill. and the crossing of the Santa Fe. There will be some switching here of industries along with interchange with the Santa Fe. Then we move on to Mackinaw, Ill and the crossing of the P+E (NYC), there will be some switching and interchange work here also. From here tracks go into staging which reresent Minier, Ill.

You will remember that not counting the P+PU, there are four other operating railroads on this layout. The NYC, which will be a short point to point. The NKP, which will be a 19' loop with at least one siding, and the other half of the loop hidden. The Santa Fe, which will be a 19' loop. In the East Peoria area, this would be better known as the T+PW. The T+PW track is correct through the Farmdale area, but I am not sure after that. The other side of the Santa Fe loop is running through Morton. Of course, the PRR is point to point.

The object of the layout is operation. The Peoria Branch seems to be a little thin on traffic during my time frame, so I'll brush on a can of Modelers License and increase the traffic abit. Place names; rivers, creeks, factories, towns, where I can find them will be used.

At this time, I have one eight foot section built with track down and wired. If anyone has any information that would be useful, please e-mail me. I don't have any pictures as yet to show, but will try to get some when more progress has been made. Thank you!
