The railroad represents the CV Branch circa 1949 from Harrisburg to Winchester. The modeled towns include: Carlisle with consideration to adding the elevated rail section through town even though it was gone by 1949; Newville (nice structures including the station, station masters house and knitting mill & local switching); Shippensburg, including the Reading interchange; Chambersburg (the heart of the original CVRR with erecting shops and a number of industries); Greencastle; and Hagerstown (interchanges with N&W and WM in hidden staging). The Hagerstown helper operations will also be modeled and pushers included during Op sessions. The layout design is walk around with two large staging areas at the North and South end representing Harrisburg and Winchester.
The RR room is about 48' X 35' with the layout built along the perimeter walls and penisula walls added to maximize use of floor space. Minimum aisle width is 2 feet at choke points. The majority of aisles are 3 to 4 feet. Benchwork is open grid construction using 3/4 plywood. The layout uses Digitrax DCC with Atlas code 83 rail and switches. Minimum radius is 32".
Currently benchwork is completed from staging north thru Hagerstown to Chambersburg. Some track has been laid in Hagerstown yard. The railroad is designed for operations wiht hopes to have preliminary Op sessions in summer of 2001. Regular work sessions are scheduled almost every Wednesday night and we're always looking for model railroaders with similiar interests who may want to contribute to the construction and operation of the railroad.
