My grandfather was freight agent until about 1956 for the PRR in a small town in southwestern Pa, called Dunbar. I was fortunate to be able to visit him at the station, and even get rides in the cabs of trains and cabooses, as everyone knew my grandfather. All occured between '51 and '56 when the station was torn down, untimately the line was pulled out. It was a railroad rich area and he helped me understand it with walks through the Western Maryland Bowest yard on Sundays. The area had the PRR, B&O, WM, P&WV, P&LE, NH&D(New Haven and Dunbar) and of course the West Penn Electric. I have very fond memories of those more idylic less pressure packed times. It dod however spawn a life long interest in Trains in general and PRR in specific, so hope to use this wonderful site to further my PRR knowledge, particularly on SW Pa.

I model PRR in Yuletide 1958. I have two 1:29 Scale USA Trains all-metal GG1s, 4929 and 4815. The latter powers the 12 car Broadway, USA Trains smoothside aluminum cars, while the tuscan 4929 powers the stainless steel streamlined Federal. The Federal is comprised of 14 extruded aluminum USA Trains passenger cars in 1:29 Scale. I also have two Accucraft all-metal K4s'es for the Broadway Limited.

This site is a fantastic resource! My grandfather was a conductor on the St. Louis Division, and some of my childhood memories are of riding in a leased Wabash F-7, and sitting in the engineer's seat of a J-1 at the Terre Haute Yards. In a couple years, I'll be starting on my HO layout based on the St. Louis Division.

Am wondering if there was EVER Passenger Service on the Logansport to Effner Line?? As a kid in Monticello In. I remember F-Unit Monon Passenger trains making stops @ their Depot, but only Pennsy freights passing their Depot @ the crossroads North of town. So unfortunate that the tornadoes of '74 took both of those Depots out. Great Site and Thank You Keeping RR History Alive !!! fmr

My greatgrandfather and my maternal grandfather-my husband, my brother and his son, my uncle and his son, my great uncle and his son, I think this is all all worked and retired from Pennsylvania/New York Central/ConRail. One cousin is still working. The Pennsy RR is near and dear to my heart. Sallie L Nelson
