Come from a Pennsy family. My Mother's father was a Freight Conductor working the Panhandle out of Burgettstown, Pa from about 1901 til his death in 1931. His sonwas a Freight Conductor at the same place from 1940 until his death in 1964. Still have his employee timetable from 1951. Grandfather's passes are still in the family along with his switch key. May be able to copy the passes if there is interest in them. Their names were George H Reed (grandfather) and Robert R Reed (uncle). Great site-can see a lot of time here in the evenings. Thanks!

With respect to reefer traffic on the PRR, please note that PFE reefers were not on per diem. These cars were paid on the basis of mileage, which does contribute to the fact that many of them returned home empty. Santa Fe was not eager to run their produce reefers back home empty unless they were in great demand for another trip east. In less harried seasons, common dry loads would include newspapers and magazines from East Coast publishers, all manner of clean items, such as canned goods and boxed items, or LCL shipments.

My father started with the PRR on July 21, 1942, the day after I was born! He was a Claim Agent in the Harrisburg Claim Department handling personal injury claims against the PRR. He was transferred to the Baltimore office in 1956 from which he retired in 1978 and died in June, 2002. An annual highlight at our house was when my father would bring home the newest PRR calendars. How I wish I had save them!

What a great web site for those of us with a soft spot in our hearts for the PRR!

In Dec 2009 the town of Hebron decided that it would like to see the Hebron Depot restored. I have decided to take on this task of forming a committee and a board. Don't want to bored you with the paper work but I am interested in anything any body knows about this depot or has any pictures. Thanks for any help.
